Description
The vertebrates of Snaiad been able to colonize the surface of the water thanks to their light, wood-like bones, occupying a niche taken on Earth only by hollow-boned birds and certain insects. As such, the "Snaiadi swans" have no clear analogue on Earth. Paddling along with their front limbs and steering with the rear ones, the animals graze on submerged xenoalgae with their broad second heads while their first heads keep watch. Both males and females have an enlarged scent gland on their "chins" with which they mark territory, and both make use of dappled camouflage to hide them on their treks through the brush between ponds.
Humans generally avoid the wetlands these creatures inhabit, which harbor massive populations of biting trikes and thick banks of fog that make it easy for the unenhanced to get lost. Sulfides bubbling up from the ground are also a nuisance.
